Making A Scene In Pink & Green

There's a new volunteer in the Salvation army. Don't you look like Cher? She exclaimed, following me around the shop, pointing at different parts of my outfit and admiring them, in particular my bell-bottom pants*.

When Jon told her they were a pair of curtains less two days ago she told me that I was awesome and she loved me, how nice to be appreciated.

This is the 1972 Family Circle pattern I used, courtesy of Elizabeth.

In honour of the 100 year anniversary of Indian cinema I celebrated by dressing in a colour combination commonplace in India but show-stopping on the greige UK streets. As usual almost everyone in Walsall felt the need to pass comment, including the fruit and veg man on the market who yelled Get your sunglasses on, lads at the top of his voice.

Tania's amazing Helen brooch got an outing.

and some bastard massive Indian earrings.

Here's just a few of the dresses I've found this week - some already have homes. They're all washed, line-dried and packed away with the rest of the Kinky Melon stock ready for Sunday's Blighty Boutique vintage fair (See HERE) - three decades of frocks up to a UK 22, something for almost everyone.

Here's some more of this week's second-hand finds - a 1970s bin for Gilbert (Sally Army), a 1960s vinyl handbag (Thursday's car boot), a promotional picture for Whitefriars glass (Sally Army) and two waxed fruit crates (Thursday's car boot) for displaying my stock.

As we're working on Sunday (can't wait, I love Amy and I'm so excited to finally meet her mum, Annie, after being blogging buddies for years) we're off out tonight instead of Saturday.

Bell bottoms (made from a curtain given to me by our friends, Sonya and Matt), 1970s Crimplene blazer (£5, Vintage Village @ Clothes Show Live, 2011), Fake Litas (£5, retail), Perspex belt (Urban Outfitters via Liz)

Real ale, Indian food, good company and decent weather, what could be better?

The UK have a long weekend as it's May Bank Holiday.
Wherever you are have a brilliant weekend and see you very soon!

* I agree with you, Janet, it's how the dressmaking pattern refers to them.

You have been having a great sewing spree. You've inspired me, I started a dress this week. Tried it on last night, looks like a bag o'shite, but I'll carry on regardless. Glad to see Helen out and about with you. What a team.

Those fruit crates look fabulous. I haven't been to the chazzas or booty in two weeks, I'm going to be crazed come Sunday morning. Have a great one! xxxxx

  21. I love those pants! they're amazing! Fantastic material, just like the culotte suit and a very groovy pattern. So very 70s. You've gained another fan then, at least this one does want you to read their fortune. The Whitefriars print is really something special. I absolutely love it. I also love all those dreses, they all look my size! The tropical print one especially - BUT I don't need any more dresses. The 60s handbag is rather fabulous too. Pink and green is my favourite colour combination!

  26. As usual you have found some lovely items! I don't know if it's the area I live or if it's just me but I could only wish to find half of the things you do.
Funny thing that the lady said you look like Cher because it's one of the first things that crossed my mind when I first came across your blog! Whenever I see photos of her during the late 60s and 70s I think of you! xxx

  27. Such beautiful bold colours - this is the very reason why you are one of a kind. I wish I could be as colourful as you - have a fab fair, that's some great stock! xxx

  28. Oooooo! Love your Indian tribute outfit! SO want those pants. Love big bells! I saw some made up recently in Indian bedspread fabric with the borders up the sides. I've got the pattern.... and you know me. ;)

Here in SoCal you would certainly get a ton of complements on your outfit, but most people would not be blinded. Funny produce guy! But how sweet was that thrift shop gal?

Super bunch of dresses and a fun lot from your haul! Kinky Melon should do well this weekend. Best of luck to you. :)

  29. Ooh, splendid crates! I might have found one today too...xxx

  30. These are not bell bottoms trousers, These trousers are called Oxford Bags.Bell bottom tousers flare out from the knees, not from the waist, like your trousers. I remember I had a pair of oxford bags, and many pairs of bell bottom trousers in the 70's when they were fashionable.

  31. Cher? can't see it myself.... ;-P

Have a fun weekend, I hope the sale goes well. (I loved following Amy's blog and I was sad when she decided not to blog any more.)

  33. Your curtain fabric bell-bottoms are inspiring me to drag out some of my own stashed curtain material once my exams are over. You are a vision in pink and green. I only wish I'd been wandering down the same street as you, with my camera in hand to capture your wonderfulness myself.

    ReplyDelete
  34. dang, I never find sheets, curtains or fabric at the thrift store. None that I would wear on my body anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Pink and green are fabulous. I love this outfit. Its lovely that the volunteer appreciated your style and sewing skills - I smiled at the griege comment and the "put your sunnies on" here in Dunedin everyone seems to wear black. You are a ray of sunshine and colour!

  44. Indeed one might need sunglasses when facing a very bright light. And that would be an apt description of you, no matter which colours you're wearing! Bright light and good cheer go a very long way in making the lives of those you touch a little bit better. That is why complete strangers and those who get to know you, love you!

  45. Great pants! I always amaze buy your sewing skills since I have been so lazy that I had not touch my sewing machine in years.
Your weekend plans sound awesome! Have lots of fun,

  46. I've always loved the color combination of pink and green. I remember in elementary school, if you wore those colors you would be called gay. I didn't even know what that meant at the time, but just kept wearing my favorites.

The bit about the fruit and veg man, cracked me up!

You are like Cher...beautiful, talented, creative with a Fuck You attitude. Love!!! XXX

    ReplyDelete
  47. Wow, amazing colour! Green and magenta is a great colour combo, they go perfect with each other as they're complementary colours - they sit opposite each other on the colour model. Something I remember from colour theory lessons! So what does the fruit and veg man know about this? nothing! Sometimes people are ignorant and like to display it for everyone to see :)
    You look gorgeous as always!

  48. I need some nice brights like that this weekend! Must dig out my springtime clothes!! :)

  50. When the fruit and veg man yells "Get your sunglasses on, lads," what do you do? Blow them a kiss? Smile and wave like the queen? Or just walk on by... I live in a somewhat anonymous city so I think it's cool that people can rely on you there to bring colour into their lives.
